Description:

This is a rare offering of the Fish Medallion pendant signed by Picasso and numbered 7 of only 20 ever made. Circa Mid Century, Picasso commissioned Francois Victor-Hugo, a very accomplished goldsmith working in France, to execute items including medallions in gold after originals he designed. They were cherished by Picasso during his lifetime with such enthusiasm that he never intended to sell them. So in the beginning their existence was mostly secret. Picasso refused to loan any of them to Galleries or Museums and kept them hid in his home. However Picasso gave in to Hugo’s requests and in 1967, he authorized Hugo to make a small, 'numbered edition’ of each and dispatched to buyers. This did not attract publicity making them quite rare.
