Described By: Nikki HFA 24494D Title: Painted Bread Make Bread Not War John J Fischer Description: John J. Fischer is an American artist born in Belgium in 1930. An artist working in many forms, he first exhibited in New York, SONRAED Gallery in 1964 at a two-man show, (the exhibit with Bea Evan called “Bread & Bronze”). His Bread sculptures were praised by Duchamp and Dali. He eschewed “monetary value” of his work, but never-the-less was involved with a Major Bread and Cracker company briefly after his success in bread sculpture and anti war “happenings’ "(Make Bread not War”) in the 1960’s. Sculpture features a painted loaf of bread suspended in a Plexiglas frame.
