  • Description: Fantastic period American Hepplewhite gothic tambour secretary desk from the estate of Bostonian Marie Fogg. The top sections adjustable shelves do not parallel the glass door mullions but the banding decorations on the top and bottom appears consistent. Features an eagle crest and brass finials with banded decoration. The eagle finial is carved soft wood of an undetermined age. Mahogany French foot American pine secondary drawer wood 2 piece secret drawer lower center upper cabinet. Desk is circa 1st to 2nd quarter of the 19th century

  • Condition: Rear panels of base section appear original however rear panels of top section while old do not exactly correspond. Overall wood wear, drawers stick a bit, back leg piece is broken (piece included), felt is worn and threadbare in a few spots and shows some staining.
  • Provenance: One of three lots in this sale from the estate of Marie Fogg-Reynolds of Boston, Massachusetts comprised of 2 associated design looking glasses and a tambour secretary all inherited by Tampa Bay heirs. As part of their inheritance the local family also received a prewar sepia tone photograph with an inventory code 29.991 likely indicating 1929 illustrating a third associated looking glass not in this sale identified as American 1790 with a faded Museum of Fine Arts Boston stamp with a pencil inscription Rooms from B****. According to the heirs, Mrs. Fogg-Reynolds participated in museum loan exhibitions of Boston society members interiors and they assume that the mirror in the photograph not included in this sale as well as perhaps the two mirrors and the secretary were a part of those exhibitions (unverified). The heirs also assume that Mrs. Fogg-Reynolds was a member of the Fogg family associated with the art museum at Harvard University (unverified).
