  • Description: Antique U.S Springfield Model 1816 Flintlock Percussion Conversion Musket Ca. 1826. This piece was converted to percussion Ca. 1842. Here we present an antique Springfield U.S. Model 1816 Percussion Conversion Musket, manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1826. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and later converted to percussion. The M1816 was in production at Springfield (325,000) and Harpers Ferry (350,000) between 1816 to 1844 with around 675,000 muskets produced during this run. Additionally, more than a dozen contractors also made Model 1816 Muskets during its production years, adding more than 146,000 muskets for a grand total of 821,421 Model 1816 Muskets produced. It saw service during the Mexican-American War and was even pressed into service during the Civil War in both the updated percussion and the old flintlock format.

  • Condition: This piece is in overall great condition. Markings are clear and legible throughout. The bore is in good shape for its age. Very good stock. This piece displays some wear to the finish due to its age. Please see pictures for additional condition questions.

  • Provenance: This item is from the estate of esteemed gun collector and author Eugene Lehman Lyon. Following retirement from Polk County Public Schools after 28 years as a teacher and administrator, Gene served as the administrator of the Lakeland Rifle and Pistol Club, where he was later honored as a lifetime member. He was a two-term gubernatorial appointee to the Polk County Historical Commission, a member of the South Lakeland Kiwanis Club, member and former president of the now-defunct Lakeland Exchange Club and a 50-year Master Mason. He had a lifelong love of the shooting sports and poured himself into his hobby of firearms collection and appraisal, competitive shooting and firearms training. As an amateur historian and writer, he had many articles published in national periodicals including the American Rifleman and Susquehanna Life. He was an honorary Life Member of the Lakeland Rifle & Pistol Club, served as president for two terms and was on the LRPC board of directors for more than three decades.

    Many smaller items can be shipped, though if you do not see a shipping cost on your invoice, this means we are not able to facilitate in-house shipping for your purchase and we will provide contacts for a 3rd party partner to provide arrangements for pickup, packing and shipping.


    SHIPPING: HFA has limited in-house shipping for smaller items and certain types of jewelry, silver and watches. Please contact us in advance of the auction if you wish to see if the lot in which you are interested can be handled by our shipping department. We will be pleased to provide a list of shippers and packers that our clients have successfully used, or you can have your own shipper handle your purchases. Please contact the shipper of your choice to arrange for pick up and packing of your items. Your items will be released as soon as payment clears our bank. We request that your shipper schedules pick up times at least 24 hours in advance; this will ensure no delays in pick up, and release of your purchases. Please be aware that the item will be packed in a box that is proportionally larger than the object itself and will be in many cases be considered dimensional DIM weight. Shipping carriers charge based on maximum allowable weight for the size of the package. Your boxed purchase will likely weigh less than the stated weight on which the bill is based.

    STORAGE: Storage fees of $10 per day if not picked up within 30 days after receiving your invoice. Items paid will be considered abandoned after 80 DAYS and all funds received WILL NOT be refunded and considered payment for storage. All unpaid auction wins will be considered abandoned after 30 days if no communication is made within receipt of the invoice.
